| Is there anyone here who can give me some pointers on playing mahjong? I've never played & was just wondering if there was a certain type of strategy I needed to follow? |

| You try to match pairs that are "free" and not surrounded by other tiles. Ray plays sometimes. He may be able to add to this a little later.

| I absolutely love Mahjongg, am totally addicted to it. I dont really have a strategy as such, just match pairs that are not surrounded by others. Its very addictive though. |

| Sounds similar to a computer game I have that dates way back, probably to the late 80s/early 90s. I can't remember what the computer game is called though ... I think it might be Mombasa. I have several versions, where the tiles are stacked, with different images (animals, plants, shapes, designs). Some games the tiles are stacked in many columns that are separated. Other games have the tiles built around a rectangle. You can only match two identical tiles that are open (not covered up by other tiles).

| Yes, it is Mombasa! I had to start up Classic to run Mombasa. Still works on my iBook, running OS X! I have various modes: Dragon, Kilimanjaro, Test-Pattern, Towers, and Tripoli. Also, I can switch the tiles to Afrika, GeoTiles or Mental Blocks. Lots of fun! Does anyone have Mombasa on their PC, or it Mombasa only a Mac game?

| According to people that play shady, keep refreshing until you get a good board.

| Don't quite understand what that means, but I think i'll give it a whirl. I know how to play, just wondered if there was any tips to use when playing? Seems like whenever i play, even if I clear the board, I get a low score, so I suppose I need to be faster. Then too I seem to get stuck a lot & have to start over. Oh now i see, refreshing when you lose is against the rules? On other sites if I lose I just refresh the board, I didn't know it was shady. I see one player here has a lot of high scores on Mahjong, maybe he/she wouldn't mind helping? |

| Excessive refreshing to a new board is a bit shady. (not necessarily against the rules) I am speaking more of the cheat programs that slow the games, those are obvious.
