A middle school coach has been arrested in connection with allegedly inappropriate communications to female athletes, according to the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.
Jeremy J. Socola, 26, a modified softball and football coach in the Livonia school district, was charged Thursday with first-degree and second-degree disseminating indecent material to minors, both felonies.
Socola, a resident of Conesus and a youth softball coach with the Livonia town recreation department, allegedly engaged in explicit sexual communications with the girls in recent months through text messaging, picture messaging and instant messaging, said Sheriff John York.
Livonia School Superintendent Scott Bischoping said Socola had coached modified softball for the Livonia Bulldogs in the spring and coached modified football for the district in the fall. Socola was not otherwise employed by the district, Bischoping said.
Socola this week was suspended from any athletic coaching positions and taking part in any activity on district property, Bischoping said.
Additionally, Socola, a 1999 graduate of Livonia High, won't be back to coach in this year's recreational softball program, according to Livonia Town Supervisor Eric Gott.
The Sheriff's Department said Socola was also involved with the town of Conesus' recreation program, but that could not be verified Friday.
Bischoping said district officials on Tuesday contacted the Sheriff's Department after a female student talked to a principal. Socola was arraigned Thursday in Geneseo Town Court and was remanded to the County Jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $12,000 bond.
The case will be reviewed by a grand jury.
