(Webster, N.Y.) - Hundreds of local parents with autism found support at a community forum, held Saturday in Webster.
The event was hosted by State Senator Michael Nozzolio, who wanted to hear what those affected by autism need from the state.
Many local health care and educational representatives also attended, to tell parents about services already available in the Rochester area.
Organizers of the event said it's important for parents and legislators to meet face-to-face on this disease.
"From the time your child's diagnosed at 2 years old...your house is a revolving door," said Sarah Milko, of Upstate NY Families for Effective Autism Treatment. "You have people coming in and out. And I don't think legislators understand they're at the top. They're providing funding, but it kind of brings the two together."
More than 200 parents showed up for the forum, and event organizers hope to have another forum later in the year.
