A Rochester teen is dead, having drowned in an indoor pool in Brighton.
The 17-year-old male was a visitor to the Renaissance Apartments at 2500 East Ave. and was around friends or family when the incident occurred, said Sgt. Bob Fisher of the Brighton Police Department.
The incident was reported at 8:17 p.m., emergency responders said. The boy was taken by ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead at about 9 p.m.
Witnesses reportedly performed CPR at the scene. They said the boy became panicked in the deep end, which is 8 feet deep, and bystanders were unable to rescue him, Fisher said.
Police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
The boy’s name was not released.
Brighton Police are investigating.
