New York Real Estate Help?

I am from England and cant go and check out areas, so I do not know much about Real Estate in Manhattan or Manhattan its self so I really need professional advice.

I'm looking at buying an Apartment or "Condo" in the centre of Manhattan in the middle of all the action and city life. But due to my lack of knowledge i don't really know what areas to look at or where to find the best deals etc. As i will be a student, i won't be able to afford high priced apartments. Some people have been telling me queens or brooklyn, but im just abit weary about the crime? just need some recommendations or websites etc to view apartments.

well to tell the truth new york has crime all around it same as any other us stae but it's just more in other places. to answer you question you might want to switch to like a sight like apartments .com or apartmentguide.com and follow the directions that might help they even have like a virtual tour so that may help also.
