(Gates, N.Y./Atlanta, Ga.) - A graduate of Gates-Chili High School was one of the police officers killed in an apparent ambush at an apartment complex in Atlanta Wednesday.
Ricky Lamar Bryant, Jr. and another police officer were off-duty, working as security guards, when they were shot.
Bryant's parents said after graduating from high school, their son served four years with the Marines before joining the police force in Georgia. They said he was "good hearted” and "hard working".
Bryant’s father said, “It was his dream to fulfill his life--to make his mom happy--to make his family happy--to come back and say ‘I've got this for you.’ He didn't get a chance to do it.”
The slain police officer leaves behind a wife and four children.
Police in Atlanta are still looking for the shooting suspects.
