How many days is necessary? I chose to go to NYC instead of having a big party and getting a gift for my 16th birthday..

What should my mom and I do while we are there?
Other than the Statue of Liberty, is there anything else we should see that's not in Manhattan?

What hotels are safe and good?

Thanks!
Oh, and what is the weather like in the summer?

One of the best things to do is a ferry ride from 42nd street on the west side. You can take a 2 hour trip that puts you right up against the statue of liberty and under the brooklyn bridge and then up to the Untied Nations building.

Being a lifelong New Yorker I wouldnt recomemned actually going to the statue of liberty. There is nothing really to do there. Ellis Island is much more interesting.

If you plan on going to the empire state building you should also do the Skyride. Its a simulated helicopter ride over Manhattan and the rest of nyc. It also saves you time if you want to go to the observation deck.

I prefer going up to "the top of the rock" and rockefaller center. If you walk around near the ice skating rink you can get coupons and save $5 or $10 on admission. I like the view better also.

A good hotel will be 150 a night. The last place I stayed was the milford plaza on 43rd and 8th ave. Its a few blocks from times square and you can take the train anywhere in the city from there.
