(Rochester, N.Y.) - Sunday was the coldest day of the year in the Rochester area so far, and it was a tough one for the area's homeless.
The Open Door Mission's drop-in warming center will be open through Tuesday morning.
The shelter is part of a network of local shelters that has expanded the number of beds available during this cold spell.
Ron Fox, the mission's executive director, said people showed up Saturday night to find a warm place to sleep.
"We served about 50 individuals, both in our shelter upstairs and adding additional cots along the way," Fox said. "We will house up to 65, if need be."
The Open Door Mission is seeking donations of coats and other winter clothing.
