(so that I can video-tape the city)? I know all of them run underground in manhattan (please correct me if i'm wrong) and I also know that the N, W and M run above the ground in Queens. Please help me complete my list. Also, if by any chance you know any good spots for taking pictures in New York City, please share that with me. Thanks a lot!

In addition to what the last poster said, I'd like to add that the Smith-9th St station (F,G trains) is the highest stop of all the above ground stations. And yes, you will have good views from there, and it'll make a nice photo op.

As an aside, from there I suggest getting back on the Manhattan Bound F and getting off at the next stop, Carroll St, where you'll find a nice neighborhood to explore. Nice shops and restaurants line the main streets while the cross streets are lined with block after block of row houses, many of them brownstones.

If you want to videotape the area, you may want to consider taking the LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) from Penn Station to Jamaica in Queens

Believe it or not, there still is a segment of elevated rail in Manhattan on the west side. Take the uptown 7th ave/Bway #1 Train.

When you hit 125th street, you are now above ground (but just for that one stop as it crosses manhattan valley) before going back underground. It will afford you great views of the Hudson River as well as West Harlem.

The #1 train again goes above ground in Inwood, Manhattan around 200th street and stays elevated until the end of the line in the Bronx. Will give you more good shots.

Technically, there is another elevated line that still exists in Manhattan (most were torn down a century ago almost), but this one was for freight, not passengers. Its called the High Line and it is located around the "lower west side" area of manhattan, near the meatpacking district. Its been abandoned since the 80's, but is now being fixed up to become an elevated park of sorts. you may be able to get up there still, but who knows

The 7 would probably offer you the best view for videotaping. As far as good spots for taking pictures, Soho is usually the most popular among professional photographers.

1,7,N,W,R,F,V,4,5,6,J,M,Z,B,Q,D,A

All these trains have a section that run above ground.

The most spectacular are as follows:
- 4 train passes Yankee Stadium
- 7 train passes Mets Stadium (the old one and the new one
being built right next to it - it's an awesome spot to take
photos)
- J,M,Z,B,D,M,Q all cross over a bridge and you'll get
spectacular views of the skyline at night.

The F in Brooklyn, where it runs down McDonald Ave to Coney Island, and where it goes over the Gowanus Canal, where it also shares tracks with the G.

The D train over 86 Street Brooklyn

The 7 train from Queens Plaza, to Queens Blvd, to Roosevelt Ave, it goes underground right before the last stop (Flushing Main St.)

The mainline trains around 125 St in Manhattan, where the terrain valleys, and the subway stays level.

The Jerome Ave line in the Bronx

The Brighton and Sea Beach (B/Q and N, respectively) in Brooklyn run through open cuts, not elevated, but outdoors regardless.

are the ones I can think of.

Here is a video of the train as it goes over the manhattan bridge from Canal Street to Brooklyn.

One of the best places to take pictures in the city is the Brooklyn Promenade. You get fantastic views of lower manhattan, the statue of Liberty, the brooklyn bridge.

You can walk down under the Brooklyn Bridge and take pictures. The water taxi also goes there for a quick trip back into manhattan.

a really good one is the smith-9th street station on the F, G line, you get the nyc skyline in the shot along with the train coming around the curve.

another good line, is the 7 train in general. if you ride it from flushing when the sun is setting and getting dusk out, it is a very nice view.

the west side IRT comes out of the tunnel about 120th street ....but the view is not particularly spectacular.....and some of the Brooklyn lines emerge from the tunnels also ....maybe a little nicer, but hardly fantastic....

pictures: Circle Line Tour around the city, especially if you have lenses ...
