I'm a new driver who lives in New Hampshire and I need to go to New York City soon for a few days. I'm really scared about driving around manhattan because where I live the streets are really calm. Does anyone have any advice or anything?

My friend, driving in New York City is a nightmare for a new driver. So my advice, don't bring your car into the city. Park your car in Hoboken, NJ and take the PATH Train, which is a commuter train line that operates between New York and New Jersey, into the city. From Hoboken, take the PATH Train to 33rd Street and then change for the subway to your final destination.
Parking garage rates varies from garage to garage, so you may want to call ahead. The fare on the PATH Train is $3 round trip, $1.50 each way. When you get into the city, and depending on how long you're going to stay in the city, you can buy a 7 day unlimited MetroCards for $24 and ride the bus and subway as many time as you want.
I hope this information was very helpful. If you need any travel direction while in town, just drop me a line by clicking on the profile. Good luck and happy travel.

Really bad idea . The learning curve is like doing the Tucks headwall on ice
Better idea : Plan this trip backwards so that you arrive at LGA after 7:00 PM
Park your car in off -site long term parking at LGA
http://www.panynj.gov/CommunityTravel/airports/html/lg_parking_off
Figure about $ 20.00 per day
Then all we gotta do is figure out where you need to ultimately go , how much luggage you got and we'll find a way to get you there
Oh yeah from NH
Take I-84 thru Hartford
Stay on it to I-684 to then end
That becomes the Hutchinson River Parkway
Hutch to the end at the Whitestone Bridge
once you get into Queens stay right use the
LGA/ Shea Stadium /Astoria Blvd exits
The old and new stadiums will be taking up most of your left side vision at that point
Exit Astoria Blvd and then find your parking lot from there

Hire a driver or take a taxi.

You could drive to one of the outer areas and then take the train into the city. There are places to stay in Queens, Westchester, Brooklyn (alot like driving in Manhattan) or even New Jersey.
If you decide to brave it, just make sure you know exactly where you are going, all the streets are one way and in mid town there are certain hours that you can't make turns. Between the cost of parking (there is no street parking to speak of) and your fear, I really think public transportation is your best bet.
