what is it like to live in new york city as a teenager?

i see lots of movies shot in manhattan and im just curious what high schools are like there and the kinds of people you get to meet

It depends on what section of New York City you're talking about. A kid growing up in Soho will have a much different experience than a kid growing up in Hell's Kitchen. A kid growing up in East Harlem will have a different experience than a kid growing up in Queens Chinatown.

Very many teens living in Manhattan attend private schools. The glitz and glamour you see on tv about NYC is largely Manhattanites. Manhattan is money. It's very expensive. But it's fun.
