doses any1 live near or in brentwood new york? on (long island)?

hello im 18 years old and live in california but im about to start college in NYC. my mom wont let me live in NYC alone so i have to live on long island (brentwood) with my aunt. well my question is:
is it safe, crowded, wat kind of race is there, is there alot of violence crime drugs or gangs? thanx for any help, i need to now everything before i decide that i really want to go to that college
and can u mainly tell me the negative things so my mom will let me go to a different school closer to cali so i can live alone but anyways that all THANX

Brentwood is 46 miles from NYC. That's a long commute for a college student especially in NYC traffic. Probably 2 hours for a morning class.
Your aunt has already told your mother how wonderful and safe her neighborhood is.
