Those are...interesting names Ray. The names we've thought of so far are Nala, Macy, and Sasha, but we're still very unsure of what to name her. This is what the rest of her body looks like.

LMAO . . . "Snausages" (inside joke here:)

"didn't you hear me? I said CODE SNAUSAGES!"

I came up with Macy then donna-(sherri's mom) told me they thought of that one too. I am not crazy about Nala only because it doesn't roll off your tongue so easy. I always say the name out loud a few times to see if it "feels right." Say "here Nala" a few times. It just doesn't roll right for me. Sasha, Tashi, and Daisy work. I also like Peaches. (not Peachy for the record :laughing6:)

Too cute for DNY! That should be her name. :p She so cute makes me want a dog even more! I'd probably name her something stupid like Rascal.

We used to have an Australian Shepard puppy that looked a lot like her. She is very cute. Ours was mixed with something thou I think cuz she had longer ears and she had really cool eyes like one was part brown and part blue. Her name was Cheetah cuz she was sooo fast. And cuz of the spots of course. Good luck with your new family member whatever you decide to name her. :)

my little (90# lab-mix) monster's name is Cherokee. Has to be the dumbest way any puppy was ever named. The quick story:

He was about 7 1/2 weeks old, and not even done with his de-worming medicine when he came home with me. On the drive home to Brighton, I passed a big honk'n manly motorcycle, I thought to myself . . . "wow, that's so freak'n lame how these huge overly masculine biker dudes get those tiny little pansy dogs (like a pug, or a chewawa, or a shi zu, etc.) and name them HARLEY." Well 20 minutes later by the time I got home in my jeep, the only name I could think of was Cherokee.

hehe, poor guy. I think he was 6 months old before he realized his name Cherokee and not "dumb a$$ dog."

BTW, Cherokee's birthday is the day before mine, so I can easily remember it, he'll be 5 in June.

The first night was pretty bad, she was whining and we think she was looking for her brothers and sisters. Since then everything has been fine. She loves the house and the cats, though they're not too fond of her :)

Thats great that she adapted so quickly although it breaks your heart when they cry for their mom/siblings doesn't it?
I love when puppies try to play with cats. Mine did that, back in the day and I have a alpha cat too, to this day she beats up the dogs, literally punching the crap out of them and biting them shes about 11lbs, my digs are 105lbs and 90lbs but my cat, Tober, has no fear. I love that about her!

I agree! She is sooo cute!!

She is very cute but she's turned into a devil dog. Every morning is the same, she wakes up the kids, and when they take her downstairs to go to the bathroom she bites their ankles-and occasionally mine-on the way down, and she fights with Teddy all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love her to death, but she still isn't house trained and she's 5 1/2 months old. We also found out that she is an Australian Cattle Dog, and not Australian Shepherd.

Donna, have you checked out the link I posted? Have you considered getting her and you into some classes? This is not as uncommon as you may think. I work with a wonderful lady and she can help. You may find it very helpful. She has many locations. Check out the link and see if what you think. New dogs, especially puppies are always a test of our patience, but with love, and education, they can become wonderful members of our family. Good luck.

Dog obedience classes are great! We took our puppy, who was 6 months old at the time (and 45 lbs!) and she has gotten a bit better. We probably need to go back, as we have gotten lax in our training. Nipping is still a problem, but common to puppies. Especially herding or working dogs, such as the Border Collie, Australian Shephard, and Australian Cattle Dog.... nipping at the ankles, classic hearding move.

I loved the class taught by Bob Minchella at Lollypop Farm (http://www.lollypop.org/orgMain.asp?ssid=&storyID=77&orgID=23&sid=), he is awesome! He does classes at Lollypop, or home visits too.

While nipping is common in puppies, it needs to be taught it is unacceptable. Whether in aggression or in play. They are trying to determine their status in your pack in the household. You will never see a lower member of the pack nip an Alpha. Herding dogs NEVER herd or nip the shepard. The will only do this to whoever they consider to be beneath them in the pack. That is why education and classes are so important. To socialize your pet and learn the proper ways to correct your puppy or dog can be a very valuable, lifelong lesson.

Just stating nipping was common so she didn't really think she had a devil dog or an abnormally aggressive dog. I wasn't excusing the dog for her bad manners.

This article is referenced a lot. LINK (http://www.webspawner.com/users/puppydogsinfo/index.html)

I've tried following some of the suggestions here, like saying "Ouch" loudly and crossing my arms and turning away, stopping all play. Then she comes around to my front to see what's wrong, then nips at my clothes.
One thing that the trainer suggested is to "bait" them into the rough play. Have a leash on them and attached to something (I've used the dining room table leg) and do what you know usually starts the nipping. As soon as you feel the nip, shout No, or Ouch and walk out of the room. She's no longer getting the attention she wants. This has helped a bit, but my hubby is not consistent with this, and negates everything we accomplished.....:fryingpan: :gah: Consistency is key!

Please do not misunderstand me either. Her dog is not evil. As I too stated above, this is all common behaviour until a pack order has been established. Consistency I agree is very important. There are many different trainers, with many different views. The important thing is to find one you feel comfortable with and start a program that fits your life and begin to work toward and maintain your goals.

i wish my dog abigail was a puppy when we got her so then we could train her right. it is hard getting an old dog to listen and learn to sit, stay and not eat human food. curse her old owner. i wish i could meet that man and get him arrested for what he did to poor abigail.

I agree with you on that Jazzy. It is always very sad and frustrating when people do bad things to animals and then you don't what it was and have to try to figure out how to help them. I do see many older dogs in class though... so... if you ever wanna bring her by... maybe I will see you there sometime. You can always teach an old dog new things. The wonderful thing about dogs is most of them live to please the owners they love and respect. That is why WE love and respect them so very much. :D
