Today is my daughters first soccer game. Every other year they had games on Saturdays but this year their Sunday YUCK! Anyway, we will be off to her first game which should be interesting. She seems to play good some years others not as well, so it will be interesting to see what she does this year. We keep asking her "You sure you want to play next season?" during signup time and she says she loves it. So lets hope that the game isn't a rainy one... I hate those!

Good luck to her. Keep us informed. Soccer is one of the more interesting sports I like to watch.

Well, it was an interesting game. You know in youth soccer now one keeps score..except the parents LOL The lost by one goal, but on the bright side, my daughter played goalie for a quarter and nothing got past her! I can't help but wonder if she is really the 'sports' type. Like she doesn't have that competitor in her, you know what I mean? I let her play at this level because she says she loves it, but she's nothing like I was growing up as far as sports, I was die hard at all the sports I played, gymnastics, soccer, swimming and cheerleading throughout HS. I don't think there's anything wrong with not being a 'sport' girl, I'm not the type that forces her kids to play so I can live vicariously.. really I'm not. I just originally wanted to give her the chance to play/learn and see if it was her thing or not. Time will tell I guess.
Its also hard for the girls especially it seems, since we raise girls to be nice then expect them to go on the soccer field and be all aggressive, you know what I mean?

I was the opposite. I cut gym all the time. One day the gym teacher seen me walking down the hall and said, you ever coming to class and I said NOPE. She said ok, I will make a deal with you, put your gym suit on and sit in office everyday and I will pass you with a D. I said works for me. I was one of those kids that was picked on all the time and those type when in gym class you got it tens times worse from the die hards.

My favorite thing about soccer is that it lasts just one hour.

The hour is definitely a plus... especially during rainy games

Jenna played baseball one year. She was awesome! She could hit second best of anyone on the whole team! (the one that hit better was a boy older than her and he was the coaches son) She was really good but she hated it. I hated sitting there for 3 hours! I did encourage her to play again the next year because she was so good but she didn't want to. It made me a little sad because she was so good but that's ok I will take the hour long soccer. She is really good at that too. She has quite a leg on her.
Now they both play. They are both really good!!!

Jenna has her first practice tomorrow. She is excited and is looking forward to meeting kids to play with in my neighborhood. Jasmine chose to play soccer for her old neighborhood. I love watching them play. I am really looking forward to it. Jasmine really struggled to make her first goal and it was towards the end of the season and I got tears in my eyes when she finally got it. I'm such a sap.

Me too, a sap! But I haven't seen the first goal yet! Her last game of last season she drove it all the way down to the goal then ran out of time I was totally like "Are you serious?" I'm hoping she gets one this year for the self-esteem/confidence if nothing else.
Practice tonight was crazy. At this level its all parent volunteer coaches, we have 3 dads as coaches and I can guarantee none of them have ever played soccer before LOL They ran weird games instead of basic drills and stuff. The poor kids were so confused but they ended with a scrimmage which brought everyone back together. We'll see how the game goes this week. Hopefully they keep growing their skills...even if the coaches aren't sure what skills they need LOL
