So far I've looked at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga, the Sagamore on Lake George, and Sheldrake Point on Cayuga Lake. We'd like to have it either in the Finger Lakes or the Adirondacks. Any suggestions? I'd like something classy (can be small, not a big guest list), but I really want a location where my out of town guests can find things to do. Thanks for your help!

Hello,
I recently went to a wedding at Oheka Castle, the couple and some guests stayed there in rooms even after the wedding was over -- downright beautiful! It's located in Long Island, not upstate though:( This venue was also featured on "Whose Wedding Is it Anyway?"

How far upstate?...check out Lake Placid the area is beautiful and there are a lot of good places...avoid mid-autumn thru early spring as they get pounded by snow....travelling can be dicey...Good Luck

Now remember, that many of your guests may be elderly, and like to sit around and visit. And, others may have more athletic interests, might enjoy a walk or a game of golf, or a canoe ride on the lake if it is summer, or something like this. Therefore, I think a hotel in the Adirondacks, on Lake George might be a nice idea. The older people can relax, sit outdoors perhaps under an awning, and enjoy a summer breeze, while sipping on a glass of wine. Or, a few might form a card game and enjoy a game of Bridge or Pinocchle. The young ones can take in a game of tennis, play golf. And, perhaps there might be a little playground for the children to run around in. The parents might get a break as their childless siblings care for the little nieces and nephews. And, at night, you can enjoy a nice dinner together in the hotel. I have attended many a wedding in a hotel, and have enjoyed the varied facilities that are offered for those of various ages, and at different stages of life. And, those who tend to imbibe a bit too much can stumble back to their rooms, without endangering the lives of others driving home at night.

i am from upstate ny...and if i was your guest, i would like any of those places...
lake george is beautiful, and has that "home" feel to it...saratoga has so much to do...and in cayuga you could set up a wine tour for your guests to participate in...maybe at a discounted rate to help pass the time...
i think your choices provided are all great, and your guests would be happy at any of them...
i also know someone who rents his house out---its more like a mansion than a house---its called the "lake house" and is in saratoga area (his name is kevin johnson)...its absolutley gorgeous...the view is breathtaking...and you can be married on the water if you chose...just an alternative...its stunning!
whatever you choose will be perfect...congratulations and best wishes!

It's not quite finger lakes, but have you looked at Casa Larga? http://casalarga.com/ It's in Fairport, but it's very pretty there.

Bristol Harbour resort is very nice!! It overlooks Canandaigua lake!! I saw them at a bridal show in Rochester and they are adding a new building so they have open dates this year.
