New York taxes are the second highest in the U>S> second to Hawaii!! My property is assessed at 138,000 and the rate is 47 per thousand. I live in Nowheresville between Rochester and Syracuse. What could the tax rate be on a $5,000,000. condo in Manhattan? Or what was Jackie Kennedy's paying for real estate taxes on her Park Avenue penthouse condo that was valued at $50,000,000 years ago when she died?!! What are the taxes on that condo now?

still around 1.34% in those areas. if there Melo-roos exists in newer developments, we're talking another .6-.9%

taxes here are insane! My town taxes are 10.6% plus another 24 per $1000 house assessed value tax for my school taxes... don't even start talking taxes with me LOL!

I guess our taxes are high, but we're not fully assessed. So my house, for example, is assessed at about $56k. But I could probably sell it today for about $140k.

Why not assess us properly? It confuses me.

My assessment is not far behind the current sale price of nearby homes.

Not everyone likes being assessed. I worked for the county tax assessor one summer during college, went around and measured houses/properties for assessment...Wow what a dangerous job that was! I had guns pointed at me, dogs released on me etc. Luckily the others I worked with and I all had a great time doing it, but it was really crazy how some people reacted to being assessed!
