I currently have the Sony A100 DSLR. It doesn't always take very clear pictures, and is horrible at action. I am going to the Galapagos Islands and Peru in the summer, and will being taking literally thousands of photos. I was looking at the Nikon D300. What is the 'best' DSLR for bright, clear, non blurry, pictures?

Obviously the best DSLRs are going to cost more, the professional levels being above the rest. Nikon at this moment generally has the edge over most of the other brands with its D3 and D300, the latter being aimed more at people who don't need the absolute 100 % best in performance. If you like it, I'd say go with the the D300, although Canon has the nice (and cheaper) 40D if cost is a significant issue.
The reason I say the D300 is because of its almost excessive performance, including great ISO performance (which helps for those pictures you need to take at night). The Canon 5D also has great performance in many of the same areas, but it's larger, less ergonomic, and slower.

Generally Canon's are known for action & sports photography while Nikon's are known for flash photography. That being said you wouldn't go wrong with either a 5D or D300, but I'd look at your technique as they will give you the same non bright, clear, blurry pictures as your A100 if you don't know what your doing.

finally received my brandy new 40d Mnday evening. Got to say, it's awesome. It took a while to stomach the price tag, but I have to admit I've only begun to scratch the surface on settings / tweakings and so far its the best I've ever seen. (for a baseline, I'm going from an ancient Canon AE1 35mm body)
