I used to paintball. ;)
I wouldn't mind doing it again sometime.
I'll be in Albany the weekend of 7/12
Maybe can get an afternoon to play out there?
I forget what kind of gun I had, but it was crap.

Ray, I have a paintball marker you can use . . . I promise it'll shoot straight . . .
the weekend of July 12th, I may be able to meet you about halfway from Albany if you'd like . . . http://libertypaintball-ny.com/ I've played, and will play again the weekend of June 7th with some teams from Albany. I can scope it out if you'd like and get back to you with some of the better fields up there to play on.
I'm actually going to be commanding during their big game on 27 July.

I'd like to play someday, but I don't want to invest in the equipment. Just take me somewhere where they have decent guns, full protection, and explain the rules.

most fields have rental equipment available. Hopefully after this November my schedule (and my wallet) will free up a little bit. Maybe next year we plan on having a DiscussNYers paintball day ;). We can pick somewhere reasonably central, bring a few coolers and grills etc.

Where are your favorite places to play?
I have only played in the woods, and at Compete Paintball in Rochester New York.

ok, here's a short list:
hotshotpaintball.com (sponsored, team discount)
jassepaintball.com (sponsored, team discount)
www.buypblusa.com (http://www.buypblusa.com) (based in Roch, has a brick and mortar store -> http://www.nvp-proshop.com/ - awesome guys, I've worked with them over the phone in the past.)
opsgear.com
uscav.com
cheaperthandirt.com
ebay.com :)
it really depends on what I'm shopping for: actual markers and other PB specific things (goggles / lenses, air tanks, fittings, etc.) I go to either hotshot or jasse. Gear (radios, vests, bags, slings, boots, other "tactical gear"), I go where ever I find something I like for a good price. Opsgear and uscav are both great, but generally a bit pricey. CTD is exactly that, but they don't always have a great stock. Amazon and ebay are great if you're looking for something that doesn't matter much (pods, barrel swabs, etc.)
Fields I've personally played (many times) and would recommend for others include:
http://libertypaintball-ny.com/
http://www.usanapb.com/
http://www.hivipaintball.com/
http://emrpaintball.com/
http://www.ejampb.com/

I would like for you to send me one of your old paintball guns to use when someone messes around the house so I can shoot them with it. Does that count.

Weird, I have a wedding in Albany that weekend, July 12th LOL I've never played paintball but it looks like SO much fun!!! I think it would be so cool to play...although I don't know if paint would go well with my dress for the occasion LOL but hey, I always have been the blacksheep anyway, why not keep up the reputation.
So does it really hurt as much as everyone whines about when you get pegged with the paintball Yukon?

not really, no . . . well I suppose it depends. Most shots will hit you on the chest, gut, or goggles. None of them really hurt. You can normally pick out a real *n00b* by looking at his/her hands. I guarantee you will only take a shot to the hand without gloves on ONCE (and by that logic, no newbie will ever believe it stings nearly as bad no matter what he/she is told until it happens).
In the years (about 01-present) I've been playing, I've been hit on nearly every part of my body (yes, *they've* had some pretty close calls too ;)). Yes, occasionally you'll get hit by some jerk who his shooting hot (meaning the marker has been adjusted to shoot faster than the field regulation - usually 280-290 feet per second), and it can hurt like a b*tch. Remember your physics though, a ball that breaks will dissipate most of its power by actually splatting the paint (equal / opposite reaction). A ball that doesn't break will dissipate its force directly into the the point of impact - most usually leaving a very nice looking bruise about the size of a quarter. Most of the worst feeling hits are from old, tainted, previously frozen, or otherwise improperly stored paint.
This sport we play DOES have the potential of being very dangerous. Due to this we try to be overly zealous with safety rules as possible. Never take your goggles off on the field, never uncover your marker off the field, only full goggles that cover your cheeks and ears are now allowed most fields. Don't ever shoot old paint, it could hurt someone.
I've played and been hit wearing a sleeveless shirt, but you can damn well bet I was still wearing gloves. Does it really hurt? Yeah, it can, don't be dumb. Wear pants, and long sleeves no matter how hot it is. We more experienced players laugh at the little (and more often than not big/older) kids who's parents by them and make them wear the "body armor." The philosophy is, if you can take the hit - then you damn sure shouldn't be playing. Its going to hurt a lot more on your neck or elbow or somewhere *else* not covered with protective padding than it will on your chest.
My fiance' has 4 nephews and one niece. The oldest is about 11 (min age for most fields). They constantly bug, whine, beg, etc. for me to take them. My standard answer is "as soon as you get your father to get off his butt and meet me at the field, you can play." My fiance's standard answer is "you're not going to embarrass yourself or Aaron. You can play just as soon as i can shoot you in the backyard without you crying." Needless to say, none of them have come paintballing yet . . .

Well, I'm a little older then 11 and I may like to dress like a 'high maintenance girl' on occasion but I LOVE playing hard with the boys. Even growing up I decided softball was too girlie so I joined the baseball team which at that time was for boys only. So I got through that red tape and was the only girl on the team. Man did I get picked on by the other teams, but I was the pitcher and held my own :headbang:LOL
I think it would be great to try, even if only once. You may see me on the field someday Yukon! I may end up all black and blue, bu I'll try anything...with gloves that is :muahaha:
