It should come as no surprise that real estate in Westchester is not selling and that prices are dropping. I'm looking to challange my tax assessment and see if I can get it lowered. Anybody know of people who specialize in this service? Thanks Joe:thanks:

WCGuy,
Yukon asked me to stop by (I'm the buddy he mentioned in his post).
There are numerous law firms in Westchester County that do that type of work. Best bet would be to google "Tax Grievance Services in ___________" Fill in the blank with your town.

Keep in mind, just because the market has taken a dip, does not mean that your property taxes will or should go down. It depends on what town you live in and what the RAR (Real Estate Assessment Ratio) is for that town.
Taxes are based off your assessed value. RAR * Market Value = Assessed Value.
Here's the kicker...when housing prices fall, the RAR typically increases.
My advice would be to do some research, and find out if your home is indeed over assessed before you start incurring legal fees.
http://www.orps.state.ny.us/ <-- The Office Of Real Property Services is a great site for information on the NYS Property Tax system.
