I'm the most impatient person when it comes to getting things done for my personal websites, so I don't typically hire coders unless we have them on payroll, which we lost our last one to 'real world' work LOL So I have always used rentacoder.com I love that you can get bids all over the world for the simplest work to get done and the fact that they really are so secure keeping your money in escrow until your totally satisfied with the work done with you.
I'm currently bidding out a project and have 12 bids since posting it at midnight. Now the hard part of picking which onto use. I typically go for the median price and one with a good past job success(they have a comment/rating on each coder in there of work done)
I know of other sites out there like this, but haven't used others one. Anyone have good/bad experiences in this type of thing?

I had never heard of or used them before, but I'll keep it in mind! :)

I've had horrible experiences offshoring work. I've NEVER found a competent programmer in India - they always do what you tell them, not a single bit more, never test their work, and if you need changes, they pretty much start from scratch. Oh, and even though you can hire someone for $8 / hr, it takes them 4-5 times as long to get it done!
I try to buy American, but one of my graphics guys is... gee, I don't know. I think Holland. It's a strange place like that. Maybe Sweden.
I use oDesk.com - it's neat 'cause when I get a weekly timesheet, I can see screenshots of what my guy was doing and he's even got a webcam hooked up so I know it's him working (BTW - his cat likes to hang out on his desk while he works).

Well, my current bid went out at midnight Thursday. By 9am I had 12 bids, I ended up taking the middle bid(as always) this guy was American, had the work done in 2 hours! I loved it, great guy and I told him we'd have more work for in soon if he's up for it, which he is.
I've never had problems with hiring Indians personally, I've had typically 1 day turn arounds with all work requests from them too. I think its cool to have the webcam on your worker but I could personally never work that way. I don't like people looking over my shoulder while I work. I hate it enough when clients know where their sites are while I'm doing them because see the process unfolded isn't always pretty and then they freak out too much over stuff that is totally irrelevant...but hey, thats just me
