here is an interesting little story on the company I moved from Rochester to North Jersey to work for (I left C3i about 2 1/2 years ago and have been with Peak Performance Solutions ever since).

basic motivator? About 60+ miles west of here into PA, a tech company can hire equivalent employees for literally 1/2 to 1/3 of the salary in NJ or the rest of the "tri-state area." Peak's corporate HQ is in Ohio, and the unspoken rule is we won't fire or downsize anyone in NJ, but every new hire for the last 2+ years has only been in OH. Why? Because cost of living is so much less, we can hire at about 1/2 of the going rate in NJ.

Is this the beginning of corporate america's realization that "out-sourcing to over-seas" doesn't really work? The name of the game is cutting costs while maintaining (or at least attempting to maintain) service level. Is this the beginning of "outsourcing to backwoods america?" I mean, seriously what's the real difference? There are places right here in the US that are so depressed they're "practically" a 3rd world nation.

Discuss peeps :).

You would think NY would realize that it is just too expensive for businesses to stay here and that is why upstate is suffering overall. I would love to see this new trend continue to "out-source" to backwoods communities (I think thats what you called them ) We need to start doing something to keep jobs here in our own country soon before the entire country feels the real pressure of no jobs!
