It looks like the folks that blog here, have some sort of RSS feed into the forum for the blog. Ed and I are in the process of setting up our own website. IF I were to decide to give blogging a shot, how do I get it to feed into the blog forum? I simply tried to post a new thread there, but I wasn't allowed.

I sent Ray a crisp $20 bill and mine appeared, but I'm sure you can just politely ask & he'll hook you up.

Ha! It's a free perk for members. :)

As long as your blog has an RSS feed I'll be able to have it automatically post into the blogs forum.

I was going to say... "Don't all blogs have an RSS Feed" but I might be putting my foot in my mouth.

So, when the feed come in, is it abridged (a summary) or the entire content?

I use the NY Post on a project a while back and it works great. CNN and the times would proudce unlikeable results.

I tried several feeds for NY news and did not like them including some of the ones above and a google news feed designed to do queries for news from New York. I'll try out the NT regional feed from the NY Post and see if it has better results. I'm not a big fan of automated RSS postings and don't want them to take over the site, but a news article a day shouldn't annoy anyone. I'll try it out. Thanks!

Also, most blogs have some form of feed available, but not all are RSS compatible.

I wish you guys the best of luck! If it's a forum, they are really tough to do.

I took a screenshot of the google ad on this page for you Rebecky, I thought you might get a kick out of it since you might start blogging. :)

We'll see about that :rofl:

So we can't just setup our own blog feeds in here? You have to physically insert them all yourself? My blog is all webmaster tips and tricks if your interested. But if there is somewhere I can just insert the feed myself let me know and I'll do it instead of making you do it all.:D

I'll look into a mod that lets you have one that you put in your profile and displays next to posts. I took a look around once (was it you that asked?) but I didn't see a current version for vB 3.7 if I recall. I'll take a another look since that's probably the best way to handle blogs, unless people are also interested in benig able to author blogs and have them hosted by DiscussNY?

-RaymondAh! I see. I know with IP.Board (not sure with vB) you can set the incoming amount. Some of the feeds actually helps get visit (such as the ones with Spitzer) and a few even registered to drop comments.

Thanks! The website is going to be a variety of things, and Ed is including forums with them too, but not the main purpose of the site, just an added feature. We'll see how it goes!

Very funny google-ad! Appropriate? :innocent:

You may want to use something like (see below) if your site does not use a template.
google_hints="Rebecky";
google_kw = "Rebecky";Raymond knows what I'm talking about. Right, Ray?
