How/Where can you get picked up by car at Grand Central Terminal in New York City?

I'll be taking the train into the city and was wondering where my ride should pick me up or if there is specific protocol for this.

There is really no place directly outside Grand Central where a car can pull over. Maybe you can pick a street corner a block or two away to meet your ride.
