:confused:Two prominent members of the :rockernana:United States Senate have speculated on reimposition of federal speed limit controls. First In 2006, :fryingpan:U. S. Senator Hillary Clinton D. NY publicly supported reimposition of the 55 mph speed limit in a speech to the New York Press Club. :violent5:Thankfully it died on the floor.
On July 3, 2008, :banghead:U.S. Senator John Warner, R-VA, :bs:wrote a letter to :bowdown:Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman asking to look into what speed limit would provide optimum gasoline efficiency given current technology. He said he wants to know if the administration might support efforts in Congress to require a lower speed limit. In 1986 The Heritage Foundation, published a study claiming that the total fuel savings during the national speed limit was no more than :confused:1% overall. See Copulos, Milton R.(1986-09-09). The High Cost of the 55 MPH Speed Limit.
There were :gah:million$ upon million$ of tax-payer dollar$ spent to change all sign$ from i.e. 65, 70, 80 MPH down to 55MPH, then again a few more tax-payer million$ were spent to change them back to 65, 70 and 80 in different states. A recent poll shows of 121,361 people showed 40,867 agreed on 55MPH and 80,494 stated NO to 55MPH.
