DirecTV Receivers

What the heck is up with DirecTV receivers? I have / had 5 of them and don't think I have a single one that works correctly. I have 2 of the old Hughes style with TiVo, one dead and the other on the fritz. I have 2 interactive, the one with DVR is on the fritz, and the other is OK but in a room I don't watch TV in and it has no DVR, and the last is crazy old, ugly, and also no DVR. I've called DirecTV and they wanted $70 to send me a working receiver with DVR functionality? What the heck? :stompfoot:

Yeah, the DirecTV receivers simply suck. Your best bet is to buy a Tivo for DirecTV from eBay (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5335857168&toolid=10001&customid=&ext=tivo+directv&satitle=tivo+directv) - suck up the cost once, and enjoy a great receiver for life. The only problem I've had with mine was a dead fan & overheating, which was easily replaced (http://www.netnagel.com/2007/07/coolest-tivo-in-town.html).

I had Directv once and it sucked. Went back to Comcast. I was thinking of going to Verizon Fios but they are Directv so they wont get my business.

I didn't think Fios was DirecTV... I thought they were different. Now if you get Verizon DSL you can bundle DirecTV, but I *thought* the FIOS was different. Here in Kenmore, Verizon has been approved for Fios internet, but not TV yet. Once they get both approvals, they'll make it available. Can't wait! Faster Internet!!!
