It really depends on your school preference. I found Fordham and NYU to be so different. I went to NYU for a semester as a foreign visiting student. And I attended some information sessions and open house in Fordham.
NYU is such a big campus. It's scattered around Washington Sq. Park. Nice dorms, nice classrooms, a lot of student activities and orgs, and a lot of students :) And the neighborhood is quite safe at night actually. Most people you will see down there are college/grad students. And not to worry about outsiders coming in to the campus, as you are required to present your ID everytime you enter a building.
Fordham, on the other hand, is lovely. I love the dormitories. I love the classrooms. It's a small campus which works for me as I don't like having huge class size. Some class sizes are only 13 students. But there are also large lectures if you like that kind of stuff. It's a Jesuit-run school where Christian values are emphasized.
I assume you're looking at Fordham - Lincoln Center? Because you can study in the Rose Hill campus and still take some classes in Lincoln Center campus. The Ram van will take you from one campus to the other in half an hour. Besides, you can reach Rose Hill by public transportation.
Advantages: education outside of the classroom. Manhattan is such a lively and diverse city. There's an ecclectic culture present. Whatever you're into, the city (and the surrounding places) can satisfy you. Into arts? Music? Hockey?
One thing I can't stand is the traffic, but you can make do with public transport. I think it's the only cheapest thing you can find in NYC. Haha.
Oh yeah, the cost of living is among the highest in US.
And I hate, hate, hate the weather. It's either too cold or too hot. Or too wet!
Finance? NYU is mere blocks away from the Financial District.
By any chance, are you considering Columbia U? It's another excellent university.
