sublet - eviction - wat r ur rights?

I have a friend whose being evicted from her sublet apt. in Queens. She resides there w/ her boyfriend and her 4 year old daughter (about 2 years)
In July, she was told by the owner of the co-op apt. that he will renew her lease in Sept. (verbal agreement). Now comes August and he has changed his mind. She has never had any compliants &
always paid her rent on time
is this legal? does anyone know what type of rights does she have?

If the apartment was sublet she has no lease nothing. She has no legal rights. Even if she had a lease, when it runs out, they aren't forced to renew, no matter what.
