I would like to have our meet up in October. I would like it to be family oriented so the kids can get together too. (we can have an adult one some other time) I would like to know what ideas people have. We could do an easy geocache (http://www.discussny.com/showthread.php?t=1875) or maybe even hide one that is New York themed. I am yet to hide one. Who would like to come and please suggest any ideas you have. It could even just be a picnic at Black Creek Park. (http://www.discussny.com/showthread.php?t=3793&highlight=black+creek+park)

I am still brainstorming here. I am thinking about making this a meet up/ book signing for my buddy Thomas Phillips' new book (http://www.discussny.com/showthread.php?t=4477). I bought a bunch of his other books one year and went to a book signing and gave them out as Christmas presents. It's pretty cool to get a book that the author signed personally addressed to that person as a gift. No pressure to buy just an idea. I ran the idea by him and am still waiting for an answer. If anyone would be interested in a signed book even if they aren't going to the meet up, you can let me know and I am sure I can get one for you. Send me a pm (http://www.discussny.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=9)or post here if interested.

Geez Eric. I remember in the spring you said your whole summer was slammed too. Don't you get sick of a jam packed schedule? That would drive me insane.

Are we looking at having it in the Rochester area because it's central to all members?

Yes. It may not have a huge turn out because a lot of our members are scattered and even in other states but for the ones that do make it, we will have a good time. (lots of new thread material, I'm sure! :D )

I like the Charlotte Beach idea. It's free. The pavallions should be open -- since we are talking about October (even thought many of you have mentioned the option of "swimming," lol! Unless this is the polar bear swim club as well :-)

But hey, I'm new. What do I know?

what's the scoop on a location?
saw in another thread that it's been hard to find something that doesn't cost beaucoup $$. Are you looking for a shelter? Is there anything in your town that would be cheaper since you are a resident? I think I can rent a shelter in Macedon for no charge for being a resident in the Pal-Mac area. Do you have anything similar available?

Just a shelter in case of rain, and a playground for kids is all that's needed I think. Any other thoughts?

If there is a cost for the shelter, I would love to put money towards those costs. I'm also assuming it's a bring your own plates/utensils/meat and beverages...and a dish to pass?

It is not official because the person that takes care of the reservations is out of the office until Thursday but most likely it is going to be a cabin at Webster Park (http://www.monroecounty.gov/parks-webster.php) I guess we won't have the official answer until then.

As most of you know, my friend Thomas phillips wrote the book The Molech Prophecy (http://www.discussny.com/showthread.php?t=4477) If anyone is interested in buying a copy and having it signed at the meet up, please send me a private message (http://www.discussny.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=9). I will make sure there are enough there for anyone that wants a copy. One year he was doing a book signing and I bought about 5 books and had him address them to the people I bought them for. They were a huge hit. Christmas will be here before you know it! :(

Sorry about the delay on the location. If the cabin is available it will definitely be in Webster. Like I said before, I will know Thursday for sure.:thanks:

Remember I need a head count as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have a definite yes or no answer as soon as you can and how many people you will be bringing.

I will be ordering DNY bumperstickers for everyone that attends and anyone else that requests one, I will mail it to you. Send me a private message.

It's official! There is a cabin reserved in Webster Park (http://www.monroecounty.gov/parks-webster.php)!! :yay:

Details: :yippee:
Cabin reserved for 10/18. 1 day, 1 night. Can get there at 11am, have to be out by 11am Sunday. It's about 1/4 mile to the camping ring and playground, but the cabin has a big field next to it where kids can run around and make all the noise they want without disturbing other campers. Soccer balls, bad mitten, bocce ball, horseshoes, whatever people can bring would be great, board and card games would be fun to play inside. It has running water in the cabin. Can not sleep overnight in the cabin, have to use tents outside the cabin for anyone spending the night. Waiting for a c/b to find out if there is anything to cook on inside the cabin. :rockernana: :siterock:

wooohoo!

I do not believe there is anything to cook on. The family rented one of these for thanksgiving one year. I brought apple pies I had made the weekend before and froze. I intended to let them thaw in the oven I was told (by a family member) was there. There was not an oven, only a woodburning stove. I put them up near that, but it wasn't burning anything...lol. My pies never did thaw in time....

I think we have a volleyball net system, if Ed remembered to take it out of the rafters of the garage when we moved! :eek2:

There is a firepit, but it sounds like it would be best to also bring a grill. There are a couple picnic tables outside, and a few more inside the cabin and some serving tables too. We are going to be at the Seneca Lodge which they said is the biggest cabin. :D

I was talking to my mom about this and how I really want to go, but I know I can't because it's the day of our second to last competition, and I had an idea. We could get everyone to come to the competition...it would be fun and afterward my mom could just take me to Webster Park so I could still go. No one would probably want to watch a marching band competition but it's a thought!

That thing is almost an all day event. It would take too much time away from the meet up. We have to be there the whole time to take care of everything.
I already told your mom to bring you after the competition and we will save a plate for you. We are having smores later on in the evening. You should be able to make it for that.
