No sooner do I make a couple of posts about my fitness routine and some healthy eating tips than I find myself going to the ER this morning because of chest pains. That, my friends, is the definition of irony.
Turns out I have Costochondritis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costochondritis), which means the cartilage that connects my ribs & sternum is inflamed. I felt a bit silly for going to the ER for heart pains (a 28-year-old shouldn’t be having a heart-attack) but after I read that “Costochondritis symptoms are similar to the chest pain associated with a heart attack,” I felt a bit better.
So now I have to take it easy and pop some pills to ease the pain & inflammation. Good news is that my heart was given a clean bill of health!

What happened? Allergies? Strained yourself while working out?

I went to the ER for a panic attack once. I thought I was having a heart attack. My story is much more embarrassing but it sure felt real. :hide:

The doc thinks it was caused by a virus. Time for more pain meds...

I was in the ER on Christmas day last year for back pain. Turned out I have some weird joint thing where there's a joint that keeps slipping out of place. On the plus side, I got percoset, valium, and a couple other things.

Since then I've worked out for a total of maybe 4 weeks. Made me feel pretty crappy about myself when I think about how much weight I've put on in the last year and how much muscle I've lost. Not that I was in great shape, but I was eating right and keeping semi-fit at least. Started back up again last night . . . man am I sore . . .

Sore is a good thing! It takes 4 weeks to make a habit - commit to those first 4 weeks, and the rest is easy.

That's awful esnagel, I hope your on the road to recovery soon. My philosophy is better safe then sorry! You shouldn't feel bad for getting it looked at right away.

Glad to hear you are ok. Sounds like me kinda, sorta. I turned 50 and a couple days later thought I was having a heart attack. Went to ER and here I had a cracked breast bone from lifting my nephew a month before that, knowing full well I wasn't suppose to be lifting anything heavy because of my bad back and neck.

Panic attacks are the worst. They can make you think you are having all kinds of things. Do you suffer from them often. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy.

No that was the only full blown one that I have ever had in my life, thank God. I have had a few "mini's" but knew what it was and was able to just talk myself out of it. The first time, I didn't know what was happening so I assumed the worst.
