| Qur'an:9:29 "Fight those who do not believe until they all surrender, paying the protective tax in submission." Qur'an:8:39 "Fight them until all opposition ends and all submit to Allah." Qur'an:8:39 "So fight them until there is no more Fitnah (disbelief [non-Muslims]) and all submit to the religion of Allah alone (in the whole world)." Ishaq:324 "He said, 'Fight them so that there is no more rebellion, and religion, all of it, is for Allah only. Allah must have no rivals. These verses were talking about time of war when the prophet Mohammad was here. The last thing here Ishaq:324 Is not a verse from the holy Qur'an, I am not where he got this quote but its isnt Allah's (God's) word. This passage explains better the verses from above as a whole story and not pieces of it. by yusuf estes Scholars of Quran tell us the verses dealing with this topic are specific and not intended to imply a general meaning for just anyone to decide to go around combating non-Muslims. The early Muslims had been driven out of their homes and turned out into the desert to starve. After finally, relocating in Medina, verses came in Quran instructing them to make hajj (pilgrimage) back to Makkah. Finding their way blocked and after several years of making agreements and treaties that the others continually broke, the Muslims were at last, told they could now fight in combat against the tyrants who had so horribly mistreated and abused them in the past. However, this would only be acceptable to Allah if they remained within very specific limitations. The word "qital" in Arabic in this instance refers to "combat" rather than what some have used "kill" because the word "kill" is far to general, while the word "combat" appropriately describes what is intended by the usage in this passage. Allah Knows Best. It should also be noted the usage of the word "fitnah" in the same verse denotes a horrible condition, not unlike what we find today when there is terrorism and tyranny against the moral and just society at large. It would be easy to properly understand the meaning as, "Engage them in combat, even killing them, until the state of "fitnah" (terrorism) no longer exists in the society and people are free to worship Allah by their choice." We can see these verse are not designed to promote terrorism, but rather these are very orders from Above to the Muslims to be the first of those who stand out aggressively against all forms of terrorism and oppression. Once this is in place, there really isn't a question anymore, due to the necessity as we see today, to prevent and subdue enemies of freedom, liberty and justice. In other words, we could easily say Allah ordered believers in the Quran to wage combat against terrorism - 14 centuries ago. And the "struggle against oppression, terrorism and tyranny" in the Arabic language, it is called, "Jihad." You might even say, "Islam declared the WAR ON TERRORISM over 1,400 years ago!" | I am sorry I have not responded sooner, but I have much conflict about this topic. I have been going through a period of being disappointed with people who call themselves christian and yet behave no better than the rest of the world. Yes they outwardly display the appropriate actions, lifestyle, and even say the correct things, but at their heart and core they are anything other than what they would like us to believe they are. Who are we when we are not being observed by society? What kind of thoughts and feelings do you have when you know nobody else will know or find out? It is the wrong discussion to focus on this terrible event and whether or not this guy was a Muslim or if being a muslim influenced his actions. The real discussion is why do we as individuals continue to ignore one another and continue to be selfish with our time, energy, compassion, money, and attitude? We fail not just individually but also as a society and this failure continues to lead to people who act out in a vengeful manner towards our individual pain. Did anyone care for this individual beforehand? Did anyone notice him? Do you notice the person who serves your coffee at starbucks? Do you care about others enough to find out who they are? We are all in this together and yet we act way too selfishly and then justify our selfishness through our appearance of doing what is right or comparing ourselves to others who we consider less right than ourselves. At least we are not as bad as.... Then when something like this happens we spend too much time accusing and justifying some more. The truth is we cannot conquer evil by more evil. Therefore, our condemnation will only lead to more badness and the cause of this tragedy will surely repeat itself over and over again. Are we truly willing to invest ourselves in a solution or will we continue to sit on the sidelines and be critical and ridicule and add more fuel to a combustible problem. What if we loved humanity so much that we wanted the best for everyone? What if we noticed when people around us were having a bad day and cared enough to listen to them and offer reassurance? What if we looked for opportunities to do random acts of kindness? What if this man had experienced this from society, would he still have acted out in violence? In regards to the Koran (or the Bible for that matter) telling people to kill one another. These passages were for a very specific historical issue and event that had no intention of being used as a blanket guideline for the rest of eternity. It is uneducated people who take these things out of their context and use them for a personal justification of wrong. Noone with a personal relationship with God would ever contemplate such violence or justification. And for those that believe the Muslim religion is the problem, if Christians would behave like Christ's example then no other religion would exist, for everyone would want to be Christian. So how much do you practice your true beliefs??? |

| The problem is that Muslim terrorists will still use the Koran and the Islamic teachings to defend their jihad against the infidels. And remember the honor killings which go on around the world. I don't see Christians teaching their children to become suicide bombers. I don't see Christians strapping bombs to their women and sending them out as suicide bombers.
